Happy CHICmas! I will be celebrating 5 Days of CHICmas with a new blog everyday leading up to Christmas Day! Enjoy!
With Christmas less than a week away, there is nothing everyone in Anguilla dreamed of more than a Bright Christmas. On September 6th, 2017, Hurricane Irma swept through Anguilla causing destruction to many homes and buildings as well as extensive damage to our electricity grid and communications services.
Over the past few months, Anguilla has shown its strength and resilience as we continue to bounce back strong from the most devastating hurricane to ever hit our little island. Thanks to the hard work of our national Electricity Company,ANGLEC and the support of electricity companies both regionally and internationally, the dream has become a reality! Electricity has been restored throughout the entire island and it will definitely be a Bright Christmas!
The past few months have taught me a lot about what I can and can’t live without. I’ve learnt that there isn’t much that I truly cannot live without but I am extremely grateful to get to enjoy the little things that make life so amazing. With my home fully energised, my island on the up and up and the love and support of my family, I am pretty content for the Christmas season, although, WiFi would be an awesome Christmas present (Hint Hint DigicelAnguilla)
Nevertheless I am quite happy to be able to enjoy these 5 Christmas Must Haves that always make my day extra special!
1.) Christmas Ham
Is it even Christmas if there’s no ham? Not for me at least! I could easily forgo every other food item for Christmas as long as I get my Christmas Ham!
2.) Ponche Kuba
Ponche Kubais essentially my family’s equivalent of eggnog. As long as I can remember, Ponche Kuba has always been a staple of our Christmas’s and it is definitely my mom’s favourite! This delicious cream liqueur made in Barbados is sure to spice up any Christmas!
3.) A Christmas Hat
Growing up in the Caribbean and my household in particular, Christmas has always been mostly about food and family. Christmas decorations have never been a priority and last year was actually the first time that I have ever had a Christmas tree or put up Christmas decorations. However, I have always enjoyed incorporating some Christmas spirit into my outfit by usually wearing red (Red outfit ideas here, hereand here) and a Christmas hat. It’s amazing how such a tiny detail can provide so much cheer and joy!
4.) King Obstinate – ‘How will Santa Get Here’
There are those who love Christmas music and there are those who can’t stand hearing the same twenty songs that are inevitably played over and over every Christmas. I fit somewhere in the middle where I have a few Christmas favourites which I often find myself singing randomly throughout the Season. None more so than King Obstinate’s “How will Santa Get Here’. My favourite line in this humourous, upbeat calypso is undoubtedly;
“Ho Ho Ho, Ho Ho Ho How will Santa Get Here. There is no reindeer in my country – he’ll have to fly on LIAT or BWI!”
Clearly, the best Christmas song ever made! Listen here!
5.) Family and Loved Ones
….because who else would put up with me and my ‘extra’ ways ?
