Full Disclaimer: I am not a huge fan of clubbing.
My ideal night out would include live music and cocktails at a great bar with good friends or that special someone, but every now and then I like to step outside of my comfort zone and follow the music wherever it leads. One such occasion was this weekend.
I am sure that we all have that one friend who always knows about the latest parties and events. Well, I certainly do and their particular super power is finding Caribbean events/parties in Southampton, which isn’t exactly a hub for all things Caribbean.
Over the weekend, we attended the Southampton edition of a huge Caribbean Party called “Hot Wuk.” According to its website, “Hot Wuk” claims to be the “maddest Carnival party in the UK.” I can’t attest to it being the “maddest” but it definitely was a lot of fun! As the name suggests it was mainly a dancehall/basement party which I like but soca is my true love. Which is why I was pleasantly surprised to hear a number of my favourite soca artists being played such as Destra, Olatunji, Machel Montano and Bunji Garlin. Like Benjai “Soca does give me mi powers” We danced until the morning and enjoyed every minute of it!
What to wear on a night out? Well it depends on the door policy of the club/event. Some clubs have strict dress policies such as “no trainers/sneakers” or “no jeans”. This event however was very casual so I opted for a cute off the shoulder long sleeve floral top and these amazing black ripped knee, raw hem high waist skinny jeans. I paired the outfit with a faux suede choker (I’m having a bit of an obsession with chokers at the moment) and black multi strap chunky heel sandals for some added style and comfort. Considering it is still very much winter here in the UK, I finished the look with my favourite faux leather jacket, definitely a staple for any closet.
Here are a few pics of my outfit. Enjoy!
